    Avoid Debit/Credit Card Fraud

Here are 8 tips to avoid debit and credit card fraud:

    1. Use online banking to monitor your accounts regularly try for daily. Remember, if you can check Facebook and Twitter accounts multiple times a day, you can use Internet and mobile banking to monitor your financial accounts. It's the fastest and easiest way to detect fraud on your account.

    2. Comb through monthly statements from your bank and credit card issuers within the month they're issued.

    3. Set up e-mail or text alerts for suspicious activity.

    4. Watch for unusual small transactions thieves sometimes use this method to test the waters before a shopping spree; this is why monitoring your account daily with mobile or Internet banking is so effective in detecting fraud!

    5. Review your credit report every three months. This allows you to see if there were any opened credit accounts you did not originate.

    6. When shopping online, visit a store's website directly rather than clicking a link.

    7. Avoid storing your credit card information within online shopping sites even from retailers you "trust". Remember Target, Home Depot, KMart, TJ Maxx and Hannaford have all been hacked.

    8. When using your debit card, skip the PIN based transaction and opt for the signature. Hackers typically need the PINs to commit fraud.
